The entire weekend's events are being held at the Alden and it is casual dress all weekend. Light finger foods and drinks are available Fri. night. Tents will be set up with drinks on Sat.-bring your chair. Sat. night, we will have a finger food buffet, beer, wine, sangria, desserts and a birthday cake. Other details are being worked out (the cost is approximate at this point, but, I will let you know the final amount as soon as I can). We will also have a special room rate. King High School 50th Anniversary Celebration On Thursday October 28, 2010. join us at the pre-game Homecoming Barbecue Dinner from 5 - 7 PM. Before the game is the King High School Alumni Organization Annual Homecoming Alumni Barbecue Dinner. The BBQ is from 5-7PM and is in the cafeteria. The BBQ will again this year be catered by Lupton’s Catering. The BBQ is a fundraiser with proceeds going toward Wall of Pride projects that help benefit some of the school’s various organizations. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This year October 28-30, 2010 our KING High School will be celebrating their 50th year anniversary with a Homecoming Birthday Celebration. We hope to make it the biggest and best all time local school reunion ever. This is King High School’s 50th year since being built in 1960. This year the King H.S. Alumni Organization will again be sponsoring their annual Wall of Pride Homecoming Events. The plan is to elect new members to the Wall of Pride and their awards are to be formally presented Friday October 29, 2010 at the luncheon, in the Temple Terrace Golf and Country Club. The format for the luncheon is set. Speakers are Tampa Mayor Pam Iorio and Temple Terrace Mayor Joe Affronti, School Administrators George Gaffney and Jack Lamb, and of course, KHS Principal Carla Bruning. 59 reservations have been sold, and about 35 guests have been invited. The committee has determined that as chair of the committee, I will be handling the Wall of Pride presentations with the assistance of Mayor Pam Iorio and Principal Carla Bruning. I will give a short explanation of the WOP Program and then ask each of the people who nominated the recipient to come up and give a short narrative about why they chose this person. The recipient will then come up, receive the plaque and both will return to their seats. The WOP recipients will be presented in order of graduation year. Rob will speak about why he nominated Coach Mac. Afterwards, all the WOP recipients will gather for a photo. On Thursday October 28, 2010 King H.S. will be hosting their annual Homecoming Game. Kick-off is at 7:30PM and they will be hosting another good football team - Bloomingdale H.S. We hope everyone will come to the game and also participate in some of the pre-game festivities. . Before the game is the KHSAO Annual Homecoming Alumni BBQ. The BBQ is from 5-7PM and is either in the cafeteria and/or (weather permitting) just outside the stadium entrance. The BBQ will again be catered by Lupton’s Catering. The BBQ is a fundraiser with proceeds going toward Wall of Pride projects. These projects help benefit some of the school’s various organizations. Tickets are $10 in advance. Each ticket gets you a delicious BBQ dinner and an entry into a drawing to be held at the event (need not be present to win). The dinner consists of chicken, ribs, baked beans, potato salad, coleslaw, garlic bread and tea. We could use some help on the sale of these tickets. Please stop by one of the 4 posted distribution (point of sale, see below) sites and buy your tickets soon. Please get word to the Booster Club and Parent Teacher Student Association. We would like for them to be part of the planning for this great event. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If you sell a ticket in advance please: (1) the Drawing Stub is filled out by Buyer and kept by the Seller. (2) the detachable Meal Ticket is given to the Buyer, to present at the door of the BBQ to attain their meal. Buyers need not be present to win, they will be notified from the stub's contact information and can later claim their prizes at Business Ink Printing. Both are King H.S. and U.S.F. graduates. Both started their careers early at Busch Gardens working for Anheuser-Busch Entertainment. Each quickly rose through the ranks to be top executives in their respective departments. Please see both of their attached files and specific biographies for more details. These were used to produce a plaque (narrative biography and laser portrait) in their honor, that they received during the half-time ceremony (immediately at the start of the half) from the K.H.S. Alumni Organization (K.H.S.A.O.). They will receive this from the Alumni President Mr. Ray Blackburn and Principal Mrs. Carla Bruning. A replica will be added to the display case in the school’s cafeteria. This display case is in the Senior section of the cafeteria and serves as a role model for the students. There they can see how other K.H.S. students have gone on out into the world to try and make it a better place. The idea of role models is about helping to make better students and better schools. That way we hope to build better people and better communities. All past recipients are invited and hopefully will be able to attend. Past recipients are: Tampa Mayor Pam Iorio, Hillsborough County Judge Diana Allen (deceased), former N.F.L. football star Edmund Nelson, K.H.S. long time supporter Casper Johnson and community leader Joyce Johnson. WALL OF PRIDE MEMBERS have helped support their school and community in many special ways. Some have returned to help their school by appearing at special functions such as graduations and also the Great American Teach-In. We thank each and everyone of them. Those awards have strengthened May 23, 2007 King High School invited alumna Pam Iorio to be the keynote speaker at the 2007 Senior International Baccalaureate (IB) banquet. Started in July 1993, King is one of only three International Baccalaureate programs in Hillsborough County. The grade point average for the graduating IB class is 6.0195 and they logged over 17,900 hours of community service.
